1st layer: Absorbent

The layer closest to the body plays an essential role in daily moisture management and comfort. The more it can absorb and manage the moisture produced by the body, the more it helps maintain dry and comfortable warmth.

This is generally the first layer I recommend starting with when exploring and transitioning to truly natural materials, regardless of the season. It remains useful both under wool clothing and under synthetic clothing, when you want to keep a natural fiber in contact with your skin. It can also provide more comfort if some wools seem insufficiently soft to you.
