2nd layer: Intermediate

The mid-layer's role is to retain the warm air previously heated by the first layer. The better it can trap this air, the more it helps maintain a comfortable temperature around the body.

These are generally thicker knit garments, made of boiled, felted, or bulkier wool.

In very cold weather, it can be doubled by layering two garments from this category.
