Natural elegance and enveloping comfort

This Fisherman out of Ireland cardigan combines the tradition of Irish knitwear with an easy-to-wear contemporary silhouette. Its open, fastener-free cut creates a fluid and elegant line that naturally follows movement and integrates equally well into dressy or everyday outfits.

The textured, embossed knit adds visual character while remaining understated: a warm piece without being heavy, ideal for layering all year round.

A sustainable essential, designed to last.

A noble and balanced material

Made of 95% merino wool / 5% cashmere

  • high softness thanks to cashmere
  • natural breathability of merino
  • even warmth without overheating
  • good durability over time
  • natural moisture regulation

Cashmere softens the fiber while merino ensures resistance: the balance between comfort and durability.

A versatile piece

  • open cut, easy to slip on
  • timeless style inspired by Irish knitwear
  • ideal for indoor and outdoor wear
  • perfect for layering over a shirt, dress or t-shirt
  • suitable for mid-season and winter

Irish textile heritage

Made in County Donegal, this knit is directly inspired by traditional coastal garments: protective, durable and functional, while adopting a contemporary line.

Fisherman out of Ireland knits its pieces in Ireland, in the tradition of Irish knitwear.
The dense and stable construction allows the garment to keep its shape over time and use.

Wearing and layering tips

  • Can be worn directly against the skin thanks to the softness of cashmere
  • In very cold weather, can be combined with a thin wool-silk layer (e.g. Cosilana) to enhance thermal insulation

"Maison de MaMoulia's favorite"

This product is one of my favorites discovered in Germany during my meeting with the brand Fisherman Out of Ireland

It has been carefully selected not only for the quality of its natural wool, but also to meet essential expectations:

  • softness on the skin

  • modern and timeless design
  • easy to wear and combine
  • durability for many years
  • and it's a very beautiful product!

It's a real discovery that joins my personal wardrobe selection, a garment designed to be worn, loved, and kept for a long time.

About wool clothing sizes

Genuine untreated wool retains its natural structure.
Unlike fibers stabilized by polymers, it remains flexible and alive: the fiber can stretch naturally (up to about +30%) and then return to its shape, without permanent deformation.

An untreated wool garment therefore never remains completely fixed to a strict textile pattern.
It adapts to the body, movements and ambient humidity: the material works, breathes and accompanies the morphology.

Consequently, the size does not correspond to a closed category.
The main difference between two sizes is mainly in length (sleeves, total height), while the ease in width remains adaptable.

Thus, for example, a size 44 can also fit a 46 - and depending on the models, sometimes even a 48 - without compromising comfort.

Composition

• 95% merino wool / 5% cashmere
• Without Superwash treatment or any other treatment
• Dye-free

Maintenance tips

Pure, untreated wool garments do not need to be washed frequently.
Wool has a natural self-maintenance capacity thanks to its fibrous structure, keratin and lanolin.

• Routine maintenance (recommended)

- Regular ventilation in the open air (ideally outside, or in front of an open window).

- Rest after each use: hang the garment on a hanger or drying rack, do not leave it in a ball in order to preserve the fiber and its shape.

- Local cleaning of stains under water at room temperature with Ulrich ox gall stain-removing soap or genuine Marseille soap.

• Complete wash (very rare)

- A complete wash should remain exceptional.

- Hand wash only!

- Cold water or water at room temperature.

- Ulrich Natürlich special liquid wool laundry detergent, ideally the version already enriched with lanolin in order to limit the contact time with water and avoid having to do a separate Cure bath.

-Wash temperature = rinse temperature (avoid any thermal shock).

- Do not wring, wrap in a towel to absorb.

- Dry flat, away from the sun and any source of heat.

Manufacturing & Ecology

Fisherman Out of Ireland knitwear is made in the brand's workshop in Kilcar, County Donegal (Ireland), a region historically linked to knitting and tweed. Production is carried out locally, from knitting to finishing, allowing for direct quality control and a fully managed manufacturing process.

The brand works exclusively with natural fibers. This model is made from a yarn composed of baby alpaca and virgin Highland wool, spun in Peru, then knitted in Ireland.

The choice of sustainable animal fibers and a knit designed to last is part of a logic of prolonged use: a garment worn for a long time reduces its environmental impact compared to textiles that are quickly renewed.

Small-scale production and local manufacturing aim to preserve traditional textile know-how while limiting unnecessary industrial steps.

Frequently Asked Questions

• Is this cardigan itchy?
No.
Merino wool is fine, and cashmere makes the fiber even softer. The feel is noticeably softer than regular wool.

• Is it hot?
Yes,
but without a stifling effect. Wool regulates temperature: it warms in the cold and remains comfortable indoors.

• How long can it be worn without washing?
This garment can be worn for one or more years without washing, with simple airing.

Yuliya's Tips

• This one is incredibly soft and a very beautiful garment! It's easy to see why it's the brand's bestseller!

• Avoid using deodorants containing oils (organic or homemade): they can clog the fibers and reduce their ability to breathe, just as some diaper rash creams for babies can clog washable diapers.
If an odor persists despite 1 to 2 days of airing in fresh air, the wool may need to be cleaned.

• This garment should not be machine washed on any cycle. Hand washing is recommended to preserve the garment's size and structure.
Ulrich Natürlich laundry detergent enriched with lanolin is highly recommended.

Ficherman Out of Ireland

Before Fisherman Out of Ireland, there is a much older Irish textile history.

It all began in the 18th century with the wool mills surrounding Blarney Castle. These workshops produced tweeds and sturdy fabrics designed to withstand the harsh Atlantic climate. Wool wasn't a fashion item—it was a daily necessity, a means of protection against wind, damp, and cold.

When the global textile industry became industrialized and standardized, much of this know-how disappeared. But part of this tradition survived: the understanding that a garment must first function before it is decorative.

It was in this context that Fisherman Out of Ireland was born in 1991.
founded by the Blarney Woollen Mills family.

Based in Kilcar, Donegal - a region of fishermen, cliffs and storms - the brand does not seek to reproduce the traditional sweater, but to preserve its logic:

A knit made to live outdoors, last a long time and remain comfortable.

The volumes are lighter, the threads softened, the cuts modernized.

But the original idea remains intact: to create a garment that accompanies real life rather than a trend.

This is not a folk costume.

This is the contemporary evolution of a garment born to survive the climate.
