Simplicity, natural warmth and everyday comfort

This Fisherman Out of Ireland crew neck sweater embodies Irish knitwear in its most essential form. Its textured knit provides relief while maintaining great flexibility, for comfortable everyday wear.

The clean cut and open crew neck make it an easy piece to pair, suitable for both indoors and cool weather outings.

A durable basic inspired by the Irish coastal landscapes.

Cut and knit structure

The silhouette is designed to provide texture without stiffness.
The front features a vertical ribbed knit that visually lengthens the line and provides structure, while the back adopts a more flexible horizontal rib, offering more ease and movement.

The back is slightly longer than the front, which improves coverage and provides a natural and balanced silhouette when worn.
This play of orientations in the knit creates volume without visually thickening the garment: the sweater remains enveloping, but maintains a fluid and modern line.

A balanced natural material

  • 52% baby alpaca / 48% Highland virgin wool
  • Structured tuck stitch knit: insulating and airy
  • Gentle warmth without a suffocating feeling
  • Good thermal regulation
  • Naturally soft touch

Alpaca provides softness and lightness while Highland wool reinforces structure and durability. The combination creates stable warmth suitable for cool and changing climates.

A versatile and easy-to-pair sweater

  • comfortable stand-up collar
  • clean regular fit
  • without pronounced ribbed cuffs for a natural drape
  • easy to pair with trousers or a skirt
  • suitable for indoor and mid-season outdoor wear

Irish textile heritage

Made in County Donegal, this knitwear is directly inspired by traditional seaside clothing: protective, durable and functional, while adopting a contemporary line.

Wearing and layering tips

  • Can be worn directly on the skin thanks to the softness of alpaca wool
  • In very cold weather, can be paired with a thin wool-silk layer (e.g. Cosilana) to enhance thermal insulation

"Maison de MaMoulia's favorite"

This product is one of my favorites discovered in Germany during my encounter with the Fisherman Out of Ireland brand

It has been carefully selected not only for the quality of its natural wool, but also to meet essential expectations:

  • softness on the skin
  • natural warmth
  • modern and timeless design
  • easy to wear and pair
  • durability for many years
  • and it's a very beautiful product!

It is a real discovery that joins my personal wardrobe selection, a garment designed to be worn, loved and kept for a long time.

Colors:

Cloud (off-white), Smoke (grey)

Sizes:

XS -34, S-36, M-38, L-40, XL-42, XXL-44

Size Guide:

Fisherman sizes are expressed in international sizes, they fit like French sizes. Choose your usual size
Example: I am 177cm tall and wear a M-38 FR, my size at Fisherman is M.

Measurements in order: Chest - bust circumference, Length - total length, Sleeve - total sleeve length measured from the middle of the collar at the back to the end of the sleeve

About the size of wool garments

Untreated real wool retains its natural structure.
Unlike fibers stabilized by polymers, it remains flexible and alive: the fiber can stretch naturally (up to about +30%) then return to its shape, without permanent deformation.

An untreated wool garment therefore never remains completely fixed to a strict textile pattern.
It adapts to the body, movements and ambient humidity: the material works, breathes and accompanies the morphology.

Consequently, the size does not correspond to a closed category.
The main difference between two sizes is mainly in the length (sleeves, total height), while the width remains adaptable.

Thus, for example, a size 44 can also be suitable for a 46 - and depending on the models, sometimes even a 48 - without compromising comfort.

Composition

‱ 52% baby alpaca / 48% virgin Highland wool

‱ Dye-free

Maintenance tips

Pure, untreated wool garments do not need to be washed frequently.
Wool has a natural self-maintenance capacity thanks to its fibrous structure, keratin and lanolin.

‱ Routine maintenance (recommended)

- Regular ventilation in the open air (ideally outside, or in front of an open window).

- Rest after each use: hang the garment on a hanger or drying rack, do not leave it in a ball in order to preserve the fiber and its shape.

- Local cleaning of stains under water at room temperature with Ulrich ox gall stain-removing soap or genuine Marseille soap.

‱ Complete wash (very rare)

- A complete wash should remain exceptional.

- Hand wash only!

- Cold water or water at room temperature.

- Ulrich NatĂŒrlich special liquid wool laundry detergent, ideally the version already enriched with lanolin in order to limit the contact time with water and avoid having to do a separate Cure bath.

-Wash temperature = rinse temperature (avoid any thermal shock).

- Do not wring, wrap in a towel to absorb.

- Dry flat, away from the sun and any source of heat.

Manufacturing & Ecology

Fisherman Out of Ireland knitwear is made in the brand's workshop in Kilcar, County Donegal (Ireland), a region historically linked to knitting and tweed. Production is carried out locally, from knitting to finishing, allowing for direct quality control and a fully managed manufacturing process.

The brand works exclusively with natural fibers. This model is made from a yarn composed of baby alpaca and virgin Highland wool, spun in Peru, then knitted in Ireland.

The choice of sustainable animal fibers and a knit designed to last is part of a logic of prolonged use: a garment worn for a long time reduces its environmental impact compared to textiles that are quickly renewed.

Small-scale production and local manufacturing aim to preserve traditional textile know-how while limiting unnecessary industrial steps.

Frequently Asked Questions

‱ Is the vest warm?
Yes.
The baby alpaca and Highland wool blend provides cozy warmth while remaining breathable. Suitable for cool temperatures and unheated interiors.

‱ Does the material make you itch?
Baby alpaca provides softness, but Highland wool offers a slightly more authentic feel than fine merino. Most people wear it directly, but those with very sensitive skin will prefer a thin layer underneath.

‱ How long can it be worn without washing?
This garment can be worn for one or more years without washing, with simple airing.

Yuliya's Tips

‱ This one is incredibly soft and a very beautiful garment! It's easy to see why it's the brand's bestseller!

‱ Avoid using deodorants containing oils (organic or homemade): they can clog the fibers and reduce their ability to breathe, just as some diaper rash creams for babies can clog washable diapers.
If an odor persists despite 1 to 2 days of airing in fresh air, the wool may need to be cleaned.

‱ This garment should not be machine washed on any cycle. Hand washing is recommended to preserve the garment's size and structure.
Ulrich NatĂŒrlich laundry detergent enriched with lanolin is highly recommended.

Ficherman Out of Ireland

Before Fisherman Out of Ireland, there is a much older Irish textile history.

It all began in the 18th century with the wool mills surrounding Blarney Castle. These workshops produced tweeds and sturdy fabrics designed to withstand the harsh Atlantic climate. Wool wasn't a fashion item—it was a daily necessity, a means of protection against wind, damp, and cold.

When the global textile industry became industrialized and standardized, much of this know-how disappeared. But part of this tradition survived: the understanding that a garment must first function before it is decorative.

It was in this context that Fisherman Out of Ireland was born in 1991.
founded by the Blarney Woollen Mills family.

Based in Kilcar, Donegal - a region of fishermen, cliffs and storms - the brand does not seek to reproduce the traditional sweater, but to preserve its logic:

A knit made to live outdoors, last a long time and remain comfortable.

The volumes are lighter, the threads softened, the cuts modernized.

But the original idea remains intact: to create a garment that accompanies real life rather than a trend.

This is not a folk costume.

This is the contemporary evolution of a garment born to survive the climate.
