Wool in its most raw form

The NLS Lily skirt is made of entirely untreated and undyed wool.
Its color comes directly from the fleece: no dye or chemical treatment is applied.

Its dense boiled wool effectively protects against the cold while remaining breathable. The elastic waistband ensures constant comfort and the large side pockets enhance its everyday practicality.

A simple, natural, and durable piece, designed to be worn for a long time.

NLS Range:

This item belongs to Ivanhoe's NLS (Non-treated, Non-dyed wool) range:
a line based on materials chosen to limit fiber processing and reduce overall impact.

Intact and living wool

  • 100% virgin wool
  • undyed wool
  • no added chemicals or dyes
  • density 450 g/m²
  • natural windbreaker
  • breathable and thermoregulating
  • slight variations in shade possible (natural color)

Fulling tightens the fiber and increases thermal protection while retaining the natural behavior of the wool.

Comfort and daily use

  • comfortable elastic waistband
  • length approx. 50 cm (size 38)
  • large practical side pockets
  • stable structure that retains its shape
  • suitable for indoor/outdoor

It functions as a thermal layer: warm outside, comfortable inside.

A simple and durable aesthetic

The straight and clean cut makes it easy to pair the skirt with wool tights, leggings, or boots.
The style remains timeless and functional: a piece designed to be worn for a long time rather than a seasonal trend.

About the size of wool garments

Genuine untreated wool retains its natural structure.
Unlike fibers stabilized by polymers, it remains flexible and alive: the fiber can stretch naturally (up to about +30%) then return to its shape, without permanently deforming.

An untreated wool garment therefore never remains completely fixed to a strict textile pattern.
It adapts to the body, movements, and ambient humidity: the material works, breathes, and accompanies the morphology.

Consequently, the size does not correspond to a closed category.
The main difference between two sizes is mainly in length (sleeves, total height), while the width remains adaptable.

Thus, for example, a size 44 can also be suitable for a 46 - and depending on the models, sometimes even a 48 - without compromising comfort.

Composition

•100% boiled wool – density 450 g/m²
• Without Superwash treatment or any other treatment
• Dye-free
• Bluesign® certified yarn
• OEKO-TEX® certified closure

Maintenance tips

Pure, untreated wool garments do not need to be washed frequently.
Wool has a natural self-maintenance capacity thanks to its fibrous structure, keratin and lanolin.

• Routine maintenance (recommended)

- Regular ventilation in the open air (ideally outside, or in front of an open window).

- Rest after each use: hang the garment on a hanger or drying rack, do not leave it in a ball in order to preserve the fiber and its shape.

- Local cleaning of stains under water at room temperature with Ulrich ox gall stain-removing soap or genuine Marseille soap.

• Complete wash (very rare)

- A complete wash should remain exceptional.

- Hand wash only!

- Cold water or water at room temperature.

- Ulrich Natürlich special liquid wool detergent, ideally the version already enriched with lanolin to limit contact time with water and avoid the need for a separate treatment bath. Boiled wool does not tolerate prolonged soaking in water.

-Wash temperature = rinse temperature (avoid any thermal shock).

- Do not wring, wrap in a towel to absorb.

- Dry flat, away from the sun and any source of heat.

• If you choose to machine wash (always at your own risk):

To be avoided as much as possible.

- “Hand wash” or “Wool” program configured as follows:

-20 °C

- without spin or 400 rpm maximum

- short cycle (40 minutes maximum)
If your machine does not allow these settings, do not use the machine wash function.

Untreated wool naturally felts under the combined effect of heat, water, and friction. These precautions aim to preserve the fiber's intact structure and natural properties.

Manufacturing & Ecology

Ivanhoe manufactures primarily in Sweden and Europe. Approximately 90% of the knitting is done in its own workshop in Gällstad, which also houses the design, prototypes, embroidery, and some of the sewing. The remaining garment making is handled by selected partners located mainly in Estonia, Lithuania, and Poland.
This geographical proximity allows for:
• direct control of manufacturing,
• short deadlines,
• Production adjusted to demand,
• and a reduction in the environmental impact related to transport.
The sustainable approach also relies on the full utilization of resources: the Maison collection is made from surplus production materials (yarns, buttons, knits), repurposed into new objects. The stated objective is to maximize the use of materials and minimize waste.
For Ivanhoe, sustainability depends not only on the fiber used, but also on the place of manufacture, the partners chosen, and the distances traveled by the garments.

Frequently Asked Questions

• Does the material make you itch?
Boiled wool has a drier feel than fine knits. The sensation depends on skin sensitivity. Most people wear it comfortably with tights or long underwear.

• Is the skirt stiff?
No.
The material is dense yet flexible. It retains its shape while allowing for normal walking and comfortable sitting.

• How long can this garment be worn without washing?
This garment can be worn for one or more years without washing, with simple airing.

Yuliya's Tips

• I highly recommend hand washing to preserve the size and structure of the garment.
Ulrich Natürlich laundry detergent enriched with lanolin is highly recommended.

Ivanhoe

Ivanhoe's story begins in 1946 in Gällstad, a small village considered the cradle of Swedish textiles. Europe was emerging from the war, resources were limited, but Martin Göthager nevertheless decided to create his knitting workshop.

To buy his first machines, he took a major risk: he mortgaged his house. The machines were installed upstairs, while his wife Ragnhild sewed the clothes. Their home became simultaneously a family home and a production workshop—a business built literally from the living room.

The first garments were sold under the name Gällstads Ylle , with a strict constraint: to create pieces adapted to the available yarns, while remaining fashionable. The founder's technical expertise and business acumen enabled the company to weather this period of scarcity.

When the brand later shifted its focus to sportswear, it adopted the name Ivanhoe, chosen for its more international appeal. In the 1970s and 1980s, ski sweaters became iconic and permanently shaped the brand's identity.

The company was then run by the founder's three sons for nearly forty years, before being taken over today by the third generation – Anders, Anna, and Karin. Despite the evolution of the collections and their uses, one principle has remained unchanged since the beginning: working with wool and natural materials to create functional, durable clothing designed to accompany both everyday life and outdoor activities.

More than 75 years after its creation, a large part of the knitwear is still produced in the historic factory in Gällstad, maintaining the direct link between place, know-how and finished product.
