Why merino wool for everyday wear?

Merino wool naturally helps the body maintain a comfortable temperature: neither too hot, nor too cold.
It absorbs moisture while remaining pleasant to the touch, which prevents the typical discomfort of clothes that trap moisture against the skin.

And since wool is naturally odor-resistant, it often allows for reduced washing: simply airing it out is often enough.

Essential First Layer

The wool t-shirt constitutes the essential first layer: the one in direct contact with the skin, which directly influences the body's thermal balance and conditions its entire thermoregulation. It must therefore be natural and breathable.

It helps keep the skin dry. Moisture is absorbed by the wool, while the dried air can then be warmed by body heat and retained by the next layer, for example, a knit or thicker wool.

‱ Mulesing-free wool (yarn made exclusively for Babyidea)

Maintenance tips

Untreated pure wool clothing does not need to be washed often.

‱ Routine care

- Regular airing outdoors (outside if possible, or in front of an open window)
- Rest after each use: hung on a hanger or drying rack, not left in a ball
- Spot clean stains with ambient water and Ulrich gall soap or real Marseille soap

‱ Full wash (rare)

- Hand washing highly recommended despite "Machine Washable" label
- Cold or ambient water
- Ulrich NatĂŒrlich or Disana liquid wool detergent
- Wash temperature = rinse temperature
- Do not wring, roll in a towel
- Dry flat, away from sun and any heat source

‱ Maintaining Lanolin

- Treatment (every 2-3 washes) or lanolin impregnation (every 3-4 washes) from time to time to preserve self-cleaning and thermoregulating properties.
- Follow the advice on the product information sheets.

Manufacturing & Ecology

ManyMonths / MaM / MaD clothing is manufactured for the Finnish brand Babyidea by EcoTextile / HempValley (Denmark/China), a workshop specializing in natural fibers and GOTS certified since 2008 – still a rarity in China and elsewhere. Production adheres to ILO social standards (voluntary work, prohibition of child labor, fair wages, safety, and regulated working hours), and each component is OEKO-TEX¼ Standard 100 Class I certified, making it suitable for contact with babies' skin.

The dyes are produced by certified workshops and tested by independent laboratories. This partner was chosen based on verifiable criteria: technical expertise, traceability, and social guarantees. The goal is transparent and sustainable manufacturing, prioritizing responsible production practices over mere geographical proximity.

Frequently Asked Questions

‱ Is it a t-shirt or thermal underwear?
It's a versatile t-shirt. It can be worn:
as a classic t-shirt,
as a thermal layer under a sweater or jacket,
as thermoregulating underwear in winter

‱ Is it suitable for sports?
Yes.
It can be used as a breathable thermal layer for light sports, hikes, or activities in cool weather, as a natural technical base layer.

‱ Can you sleep in this tank top?
Yes.
Its fine, breathable knit makes it suitable as loungewear or pajamas. This t-shirt is exceptionally helpful and valuable for sleeping with when you have a fever.

‱ Does the wool itch?
No.
The fine knit is soft, often compared to cotton to the touch.

‱ Can it be machine washed?
You can – if you wish – wash this wool in the machine at less than 30°C, on a short cycle, with a maximum spin of 400 rpm or no spin if possible, and with a special wool detergent, without adding fabric softener. However, machine washing is always at your own risk. Hand washing is highly recommended to preserve the untreated fiber.

‱ How many times can it be worn without washing?
Dozens of times depending on use, with simple airing.

‱ Isn't it too warm for summer?
It thermoregulates: warm when it's cold, breathable and cooling when it's hot thanks to accumulated moisture which acts like a natural air conditioner.

‱ Does the wool stretch?
Yes, slightly with use, but it returns to its shape after resting.

‱ Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes, merino wool is finer than a human hair. By maintaining its lanolin, which moisturizes it, you will have a very comfortable garment to wear.

‱ Is it an eco-friendly product?
Yes. Natural fiber, truly biodegradable, durable, certified and ethical production.

Yuliya's Tips

‱ This product is one of my essential favorites that I highly recommend!

‱ Avoid using deodorants containing oils (organic or homemade): they can clog the fibers and reduce their breathability, just as some diaper rash creams for babies can clog cloth diapers.
If an odor persists despite 1 to 2 days of airing in fresh air, a deep cleaning of the wool may be necessary.

‱ I strongly recommend hand washing to maintain the garment's size and structure.
Ulrich NatĂŒrlich products (laundry detergent, cure, impregnation, stain remover soap) are highly recommended.

Babyidea / ManyMonths / MaM

The Babyidea story begins in Finland, in the Helsinki region, as a Scandinavian family business guided by a simple idea: to design products that are truly useful in everyday life and consistent with natural parenting.

MaMÂź Design's beginnings date back to 2001, during Bettina's maternity leave; she was then a university lecturer. At that time, physiological babywearing was virtually unknown in Europe, and suitable clothing was practically nonexistent. The first creations were therefore born from a concrete need: to make life with a baby easier, without compromising on comfort or materials.
ManyMonths clothes that grow with the child - are born.

The brand has grown alongside its children: from a few boxes stacked in a bedroom serving as a makeshift workshop to a 500 mÂČ logistics space near Helsinki, and then to a network of distributors and boutiques across Europe. Despite this evolution, the objective remains unchanged: to develop sustainable, practical, and respectful solutions in partnership with companies that share the same values.

Following this principle, the manufacturing of ManyMonths, MaM, and MaD clothing was not based on geographical criteria but on technical and human factors. The choice fell on EcoTextile / HempValley (Denmark/China), a workshop specializing in natural fibers that has been operating for nearly twenty years with high standards of traceability and social responsibility. GOTS certified since 2008—a still rare certification—the manufacturer also adheres to the ILO's international labor standards. Each component is OEKO-TEX¼ Standard 100 Class I certified, and the dyes are tested by independent laboratories.

This partnership reflects the brand's philosophy: prioritizing expertise, transparency, and verifiable guarantees over superficial proximity. The objective remains the same as from the outset: to create clothing designed to last, safe for children, and consistent with a more responsible lifestyle, from design in Finland to manufacturing.

The MaM / MaD collection for adults was born in 2017 to meet the growing demand from parents to finally be able to wear the same wool as their children in ManyMonths.

*******

My business began with the purchase of a simple ManyMonths pure wool bodysuit in 2012. That's when I truly discovered what wool could be like in everyday life. Then, as I outfitted my children with the entire collection, another realization dawned: I wanted to talk about it, explain it, and share it with the world!

That's how my shop was born. This brand was the direct origin of my business, and over the years I have also been very actively involved in its development in France, while influencing certain product developments thanks to feedback from the field.

It all started thanks to Bettina. I will always be grateful to her for these clothes that have accompanied my children - and me - throughout all these years.
