Why this balaclava changes everyday life

  • Does your child constantly take off their hat?
  • Are you looking for a solution that stays in place without being uncomfortable?
  • Do you want to protect the head, neck, chest, and upper back all at once?
  • When babywearing, do you need a reliable accessory that moves with you?
  • Are you looking for an alternative to a scarf (often prohibited at school)?
  • Do you want a single item that can be used all year round, or even for several years, and from birth?

The ManyMonths balaclava was designed as a complete solution: a single accessory to cover, protect, and simplify.

Complete coverage, without compromise

Rabbit model with long ears.

Unlike a classic hat, this balaclava protects:

  • the head
  • the ears
  • the neck
  • the upper chest
  • the upper back

→ continuous protection, with no exposed areas

It can also be worn like a snood, simply pushed back when going indoors.

Stays in place all day long

  • ergonomic cut that perfectly fits the head
  • moves with you without twisting or riding up
  • integrated and discreet elastic at the back of the neck for a perfect fit.
  • does not obstruct vision
  • and doesn't itch!

→ the child doesn't feel the need to take it off

Perfect for babywearing

  • protects the upper back when back-carrying
  • covers the often-exposed chest
  • stays well-positioned without adjustment

A real plus for carried babies and toddlers.

Ideal alternative to a scarf

  • no knots, no unnecessary bulk
  • optimal safety (schools, daycares)
  • doesn't get lost on the way

→ a simple and reliable everyday solution

Scalable and durable

  • two-way stretch knit
  • adapts to different head shapes
  • grows with the child across several sizes

Absolute comfort, even for sleeping

  • flat seams
  • fine, soft, non-irritating knit
  • no discomfort when lying down

Perfect for:

  • naps
  • outings
  • everyday wear

Smart thickness

  • a single layer of merino wool
    → ideal for mid-season
  • allows for layering in winter
→ more flexibility depending on the temperature

Why merino wool is essential here

  • naturally regulates temperature
  • retains warmth without overheating
  • breathable and comfortable
  • remains pleasant even in humid conditions

A must-have for little ones

As the head is a major area of heat loss, this balaclava quickly becomes a key item from the first few months – and for a long time.

Then older children can choose adult clothing MaM or MaD in size S, then M...

How to choose the right child size for pre-order (delivery in September)

For pre-orders, you always need to anticipate the child's growth between today and reception. With ManyMonths, it's even simpler:
their sizes are adjustable and cover several classic sizes. This provides a real margin for growth, with no risk of the garment being too small upon receipt.

Simple rule:

  • never skip a size (because you'll be skipping several classic sizes)
  • always choose at least the next size up
  • sometimes the same size the child would wear today - only if they've just started wearing it

Maintenance tips

Untreated pure wool clothing does not need to be washed often.

‱ Regular care

- Regular airing outdoors (outside if possible, or in front of an open window)
- Rest after each use: hung on a hanger or drying rack, not left in a ball)
- Spot cleaning of stains under ambient water with Ulrich gall soap or genuine Marseille soap

‱ Full wash (rare)

- Hand washing strongly recommended despite the "Machine washable" label
- Cold or ambient water
- Ulrich NatĂŒrlich or Disana liquid wool detergent
- Washing temperature = rinsing temperature
- No wringing, roll in a towel
- Dry flat, away from direct sunlight and any heat source

‱ Maintaining Lanolin

- Treatment (every 2-3 washes) or lanolin impregnation (every 3-4 washes) from time to time to preserve self-cleaning and thermoregulatory properties.
- Follow the instructions on the product sheets

Manufacturing & Ecology

ManyMonths / MaM / MaD clothing is manufactured for the Finnish brand Babyidea by EcoTextile / HempValley (Denmark/China), a workshop specializing in natural fibers and GOTS certified since 2008 – still a rarity in China and elsewhere. Production adheres to ILO social standards (voluntary work, prohibition of child labor, fair wages, safety, and regulated working hours), and each component is OEKO-TEX¼ Standard 100 Class I certified, making it suitable for contact with babies' skin.

The dyes are produced by certified workshops and tested by independent laboratories. This partner was chosen based on verifiable criteria: technical expertise, traceability, and social guarantees. The goal is transparent and sustainable manufacturing, prioritizing responsible production practices over mere geographical proximity.

Frequently Asked Questions

‱ Does this balaclava replace a hat and scarf?
Yes, it replaces both in one piece.

‱ Doesn't merino wool itch?
The merino wool used for baby clothing is very fine and soft. It is suitable even for sensitive skin. Proper care and maintaining the lanolin are crucial steps for the natural softness of any wool.

Yuliya's Tips

‱ This is clearly one of my best ManyMonths purchases – it's hard to move on to anything else after so many years of use.
Used from birth up to around 8 years old, it truly accompanies a child throughout their entire childhood. It's no wonder it's one of the brand's flagship products: countless families adopt it and never let go.

For us, it was one of those essential basics, the kind you use without thinking, day after day.

‱ Hand wash, please!

This simple gesture – and rarely necessary – helps preserve the garment's beautiful shape and size over time.
Gentle care also helps maintain the product's high quality, which can be a real advantage if you ever wish to resell it.

ManyMonths garments are easily passed down from family to family, and their second-hand value often remains very good.
Well-maintained, used for a very long time – then resold, this garment can thus become one of the most economical pieces in your child's wardrobe.

Babyidea / ManyMonths / MaM

The Babyidea story begins in Finland, in the Helsinki region, as a Scandinavian family business guided by a simple idea: to design products that are truly useful in everyday life and consistent with natural parenting.

MaMÂź Design's beginnings date back to 2001, during Bettina's maternity leave; she was then a university lecturer. At that time, physiological babywearing was virtually unknown in Europe, and suitable clothing was practically nonexistent. The first creations were therefore born from a concrete need: to make life with a baby easier, without compromising on comfort or materials.
ManyMonths clothes that grow with the child - are born.

The brand has grown alongside its children: from a few boxes stacked in a bedroom serving as a makeshift workshop to a 500 mÂČ logistics space near Helsinki, and then to a network of distributors and boutiques across Europe. Despite this evolution, the objective remains unchanged: to develop sustainable, practical, and respectful solutions in partnership with companies that share the same values.

Following this principle, the manufacturing of ManyMonths, MaM, and MaD clothing was not based on geographical criteria but on technical and human factors. The choice fell on EcoTextile / HempValley (Denmark/China), a workshop specializing in natural fibers that has been operating for nearly twenty years with high standards of traceability and social responsibility. GOTS certified since 2008—a still rare certification—the manufacturer also adheres to the ILO's international labor standards. Each component is OEKO-TEX¼ Standard 100 Class I certified, and the dyes are tested by independent laboratories.

This partnership reflects the brand's philosophy: prioritizing expertise, transparency, and verifiable guarantees over superficial proximity. The objective remains the same as from the outset: to create clothing designed to last, safe for children, and consistent with a more responsible lifestyle, from design in Finland to manufacturing.

The MaM / MaD collection for adults was born in 2017 to meet the growing demand from parents to finally be able to wear the same wool as their children in ManyMonths.

*******

My business began with the purchase of a simple ManyMonths pure wool bodysuit in 2012. That's when I truly discovered what wool could be like in everyday life. Then, as I outfitted my children with the entire collection, another realization dawned: I wanted to talk about it, explain it, and share it with the world!

That's how my shop was born. This brand was the direct origin of my business, and over the years I have also been very actively involved in its development in France, while influencing certain product developments thanks to feedback from the field.

It all started thanks to Bettina. I will always be grateful to her for these clothes that have accompanied my children - and me - throughout all these years.
