Large wool-cashmere blanket - Saling

A true cloud of softness thanks to the cashmere added to the virgin wool!

This large, long-pile wool-cashmere blanket from Saling (Germany) is designed to offer natural warmth, breathable comfort, and exceptional durability. Thanks to its untreated fiber and high lanolin content, it's an ideal choice for those seeking an authentic, healthy, and high-performance wool blanket.

Versatile uses

  • For sleeping as a warm and breathable blanket.
  • Like a soft blanket to keep warm while reading or watching television.
  • As a play mat to be placed on the floor, thanks to its firmness and thickness.

This versatility makes it a must-have for people wishing to enjoy the natural properties of a high-quality German wool-cashmere blanket.

Natural properties of wool

‱ Optimal thermoregulation.
The fiber creates an air cushion around the body.
It stabilizes heat, removes excess moisture and prevents sudden temperature changes.
Wool can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture while remaining dry to the touch, making it an ideal material for a winter blanket as well as for year-round use.

‱ Self-cleaning thanks to lanolin.
Lanolin repels dirt and bad odors, allowing the blanket to stay clean for a long time without requiring regular washing.
The fiber renews itself in fresh air: simple ventilation is enough.

‱ Antibacterial and hygienic.
The keratin and acidic pH of wool do not provide a favorable environment for the development of bacteria.
Wool is therefore naturally antibacterial and perfectly suited to even the most sensitive skin.

‱ Antistatic.
It does not attract dust, being naturally antistatic, and does not harbor dust mites, making it a relevant option for people seeking a hypoallergenic wool blanket.

‱ With a softness significantly greater than that of a pure wool blanket, this model will be particularly appreciated by people with increased sensitivity to contact with natural fibers.

Maintenance tips

‱ Do not machine wash.
‱ Do not entrust to the dry cleaners.

‱ Wool requires very little maintenance.
‱ Regularly ventilating with fresh air is enough to regenerate it.

‱ Local tasks
Occasional cleaning only, with Ulrich brand gall soap, or genuine Marseille soap; without immersing the entire product.

‱ If a complete wash is essential:
Hand washing in a bathtub.
Room temperature water.
Special lambskin laundry detergent enriched with lanolin, from the Ulrich brand.
Leave to soak for a maximum of 20-30 minutes.
No fabric softener, just a little white vinegar in the final rinse.
Wringing: press gently without twisting.
Wrap in an absorbent towel.

Drying: flat, never on a radiator.
Avoid direct sunlight.
Reshape by gently pulling several times during drying.

‱ Important

Frequently Asked Questions

‱ Is this blanket softer than the 100% wool version?
Yes.
The addition of 5% cashmere and the long pile structure provide significantly superior softness, making it more supple and plusher to the touch.
It is particularly suitable for sensitive people who do not always tolerate direct contact with classic virgin wool.

‱ Is it suitable for young children?
Yes,
It might be suitable, but the long bristles are very attractive to curious little hands. It's therefore best to adapt its use according to your child's developmental stage and exploration habits.
The exceptional softness of this blanket is generally very popular with toddlers: its plush touch offers a comforting sensory effect, similar to a cuddly toy.
Note: If your child uses a pacifier, the hairs may leave a fine downy residue on them with each touch. This is normal behavior due to the nature of this type of fiber. However, you might not appreciate the need to rinse the pacifier frequently :)

‱ Is the cover heavy or light?
It is relatively lighter compared to the equivalent 100% wool blanket, while still being dense enough to offer warmth and comfort.
The long-pile finish gives an impression of visual volume without adding weight.

‱ Is it safe to sleep directly under a pure virgin wool blanket?
Yes.
That is, in fact, its primary use.
Wool thermoregulates, wicks away moisture and creates a stable feeling of warmth, making this blanket suitable for sleeping all year round, especially in winter.

‱ Is the cover machine washable?
No.
It is imperative not to machine wash it in order to avoid deforming the fiber or damaging the natural lanolin.
Virgin wool does not need frequent washing: regular airing is sufficient.

‱ Does wool smell bad over time?
No, on the contrary.
The lanolin present in wool naturally repels odors.
After simply airing it out in fresh air, the blanket regains its neutral odor.
Virgin wool does not retain body odor or moisture.

‱ Is it suitable for people with allergies?
Yes.
Virgin wool is antistatic; it does not attract dust or mites.
It is also naturally antibacterial.
In general, untreated wool is better suited to sensitive people than Superwash wool, as it retains its structure and lanolin.

Yuliya's Tips

‱ I particularly recommend this blanket to people sensitive to the feel of fibers, or who have never been able to get used to traditional wool. The cashmere significantly softens the sensation while retaining the thermal benefits of wool.

‱ This cover has been part of our daily life since 2016.
It is used in the living room as a blanket on the sofa, i.e. - very intensive use by the whole family including the cat.
I really love the warm atmosphere it creates, this authentic and natural style, almost “chalet”.

‱ At night in very cold weather, it is used as an upper layer on top of the Saling wool duvet, adding warmth and comfort without ever being stifling.

‱ Personally, I occasionally use the Kaiser sheepskin brush—about once a month, or even less—to gently detangle longer fibers in areas where there's more friction. This step should be done very carefully, as brushing too vigorously can pull out too many fibers while thinning the wool. It's not strictly necessary, but it's a little routine I follow at home when I notice tangled areas.

Saling

At Saling, everything starts with a simple idea: a textile product should be able to last for years, not just a few seasons. This German family business has built its reputation on natural materials, with wool as its core material, chosen not for its image but for what it truly offers when left unaltered.

The wool comes from local farms guaranteed mulesing-free and is monitored at every stage. Nothing is unnecessarily rushed: the fiber is washed and prepared using gentle processes to preserve its original structure. The aim is not to alter the material but to work with it. Breathability, temperature regulation, and durability are not added—they are simply preserved.

The manufacturing process also remains consistent with this approach. Producing in Germany allows for control over each stage, minimizes transportation, and leverages established expertise. The pieces are designed to last: strong seams, a structure that won't deform, and materials that retain their shape over time. No unnecessary embellishments, no superfluous plastic, only renewable and biodegradable materials chosen for their actual lifespan.

Each Saling product reflects this approach: respecting the fiber so that it can fulfill its role naturally, offering healthy comfort over time and producing responsibly - not as an argument, but as a logical continuity between the material, the use and the environment.
