Large pure virgin sheep's wool blanket - Saling

This large pure virgin wool blanket from Saling (Germany) is designed to offer natural warmth, breathable comfort, and exceptional durability. Thanks to its untreated fiber and high lanolin content, it is an ideal choice for those seeking an authentic, healthy, and high-performance wool blanket.

Versatile uses

  • For sleeping as a warm and breathable blanket.
  • Like a soft blanket to keep warm while reading or watching television.
  • As a play mat to be placed on the floor, thanks to its firmness and thickness.

This versatility makes it a must-have for people wishing to enjoy the natural properties of a high-quality German virgin wool blanket.

Natural properties of wool

• Optimal thermoregulation.
The fiber creates an air cushion around the body.
It stabilizes heat, removes excess moisture and prevents sudden temperature changes.
Wool can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture while remaining dry to the touch, making it an ideal material for a winter blanket as well as for year-round use.

• Self-cleaning thanks to lanolin.
Lanolin repels dirt and bad odors, allowing the blanket to stay clean for a long time without requiring regular washing.
The fiber renews itself in fresh air: simple ventilation is enough.

• Antibacterial and hygienic.
The keratin and acidic pH of wool do not provide a favorable environment for the development of bacteria.
Wool is therefore naturally antibacterial and perfectly suited to even the most sensitive skin.

• Antistatic.
It does not attract dust, being naturally antistatic, and does not harbor dust mites, making it a relevant option for people seeking a hypoallergenic wool blanket.

Fabrication & Écologie

Saling is a German family brand renowned for its expertise with natural materials, particularly wool. Their products are designed with durable German quality in mind, built to last for many years.

The wool used comes from local farms, guaranteed mulesing-free, and meets strict specifications regarding origin, traceability, and fiber processing. Every stage of production, from raw material selection to finishing, is geared towards the product's durability, strength, and longevity. The seams are neat, the structure is stable, and the fiber's strength is maintained over time.

Saling's philosophy is based on the exclusive use of natural materials, sourced from renewable resources, without unnecessary artifice. The wool is washed and combed using gentle methods that do not alter its natural structure. No harsh chemical treatments are applied: the fiber thus retains its essential properties – breathability, temperature regulation, strength, and durability.

Production is local, in Germany, which contributes to reducing the environmental footprint and supporting short industrial and artisanal supply chains. The materials chosen are biodegradable, free of unnecessary plastic, and selected for their genuine durability.

Each Saling product is intended to be the expression of a responsible and conscious approach: preserving the authenticity of the fibers, offering healthy and lasting comfort, while respecting the environment and future generations.

Questions fréquentes

• Does this cover make you itch?

The virgin wool used by Saling is soft, dense, and natural. It may offer a slightly woolly feel upon direct contact for very sensitive skin, but it doesn't actually itch.
Most users appreciate its feel against their skin. Avoid washing it with unsuitable detergents to prevent damaging its natural surface and the lanolin-based fibers that soften it.

• Is it safe to sleep directly under a pure virgin wool blanket?
Yes.
That is, in fact, its primary use.
Wool thermoregulates, wicks away moisture and creates a stable feeling of warmth, making this blanket suitable for sleeping all year round, especially in winter.

• Is it suitable for children?
Yes.
Wool is naturally hypoallergenic, antibacterial, and antistatic. It does not retain dust mites and is perfectly suited for children, including those with sensitive skin.
Moreover, its 150 x 190 cm format is ideal for a 90 x 200 cm bed.

• Is the cover machine washable?
No.
It is imperative not to machine wash it in order to avoid deforming the fiber or damaging the natural lanolin.
Virgin wool does not need frequent washing: regular airing is sufficient.

• Does wool smell bad over time?
No, on the contrary.
The lanolin present in wool naturally repels odors.
After simply airing it out in fresh air, the blanket regains its neutral odor.
Virgin wool does not retain body odor or moisture.

• Is it suitable for people with allergies?
Yes.
Virgin wool is antistatic; it does not attract dust or mites.
It is also naturally antibacterial.
In general, untreated wool is better suited to sensitive people than Superwash wool, as it retains its structure and lanolin.

• Why shouldn't you use fabric softener?
Fabric softener coats the fiber and alters the natural lanolin, reducing its self-cleaning, thermoregulating, and antibacterial properties.
It also makes the material heavier and can cause premature felting.

• What should I do if the cover warps after drying?
Simply reshape it gently while it is still damp by gently pulling on the sides.
Repeat the process several times during drying.
Wool returns to its original shape very well if it has not been twisted or heated.

• How long does a pure virgin wool blanket last?
With proper care (regular ventilation and very few washes), a virgin wool blanket can last for decades.
It is a sustainable investment, with no loss of performance even after several years of use.

Conseils de Yuliya

• This blanket is ideal in winter and mid-season for those who like enveloping warmth without a stifling effect.

• This cover has been part of our daily life since 2016.
It is used on children's beds (90 x 200 cm) as a bedspread and extra bedding.
I really love the warm atmosphere it creates, this authentic and natural style, almost “chalet”.
At night in very cold weather, it is used as an upper layer on top of the Saling wool duvet, adding warmth and comfort without ever being stifling.

• Don't try to "clean" this blanket too often. Air is its best friend. Air it regularly and, if necessary, very gently brush areas of friction to restore its fluffiness. The less you do this, the better it will age.

Saling
