Double-sided mattress topper in organic cotton / pure virgin wool – Saling (Germany)

Natural and reversible mattress topper, suitable for 90 x 190 or 90 x 200 cm beds thanks to the four elastic straps.
Suitable for children and adults alike.

Dual use depending on the season

  • Wool side (without sheet): ideal in winter and all year round to fully benefit from thermoregulation.
  • As for cotton: possible in summer with a sheet over it to simplify care, but nothing beats thermoregulating wool all year round.

Saling quality - meticulously German-made

  • Sturdy, well-positioned seams to keep the wool in place.
  • Dense and homogeneous filling that does not compact easily.
  • Natural materials sourced from local production, without mulesing.

Natural properties of wool

Optimal thermoregulation all year round:

  • In winter : wool retains a cushion of warm air around the body, providing unparalleled insulation.
  • In summer : it absorbs up to 30% of its weight in moisture, without feeling wet or cold upon waking.

Natural self-cleaning:

  • Wool renews itself through contact with oxygen: aeration = cleaning.
  • Lanolin reduces dirt adhesion and limits odors.

Hygienic and sustainable:

  • Naturally antibacterial (the natural acidic pH is unfavorable to bacteria and viruses).
  • Antistatic: does not attract dust or mites.
  • Suitable for all skin types, even very sensitive skin.

Available sizes:

90 x 190 cm

90 x 200 cm

Maintenance tips

To do:

• Ventilate regularly, ideally with fresh air
• Treat any stains locally with Ulrich stain-removing soap and room temperature water
• In extreme cases: hand wash only, room temperature water + Ulrich special wool detergent enriched with lanolin

Things not to do:

• No machine
• No pressing
• No fabric softener
• Do not dry in direct sunlight
• Do not dry on a radiator
• No mattress twisting

Exceptional washing procedure:

• Wash gently in a bathtub with room temperature water.
• Special shampoo for wool and delicate fabrics or laundry detergent enriched with lanolin - by Ulrich
• Soak for a maximum of 30 minutes
• Rinse at the same temperature (essential to avoid thermal shock), 3-4 times (white vinegar for the final rinse)
• Squeeze gently to remove the water.
• Dry flat, cotton side up at first.
• Readjust the wool inside during drying if it has shifted slightly.

Manufacturing & Ecology

Saling manufactures wool products in Germany using locally sourced, mulesing-free wool from farms, ensuring full traceability. The fiber is processed gently without harsh chemicals to preserve its natural properties. Designed for durability, the products utilize biodegradable materials and local production methods to minimize environmental impact.

Frequently Asked Questions

• Can you sleep directly on it without a sheet?
Yes.
The wool side is designed to be used without a sheet in order to fully benefit from thermoregulation and self-cleaning properties.
In summer, you can switch to the cotton side and add a sheet if that seems more practical to you.

• Is it suitable for children?
Yes,
perfectly.
Wool naturally regulates temperature, limits nighttime perspiration, and offers stable and reassuring comfort. It's ideal for children who get hot easily, sleep poorly, or sweat a lot.

• Should this mattress topper be washed?
No,
except in exceptional cases.
Regular ventilation is sufficient for maintenance.
Wool cleans itself naturally upon contact with oxygen.

• What to do in case of a stain?
Treat only the affected area:
- ambient water
-Ulrich gentle stain-removing soap (bile soap or Panama bark soap)
- flat drying
It is not necessary (nor recommended) to wash the entire mattress topper.

• Can it be machine washed?
No.
Machine washing would deform the wool and could cause shrinkage or internal felting.
Only exceptional hand washing is feasible.

• Can it be put in the tumble dryer?
Never. The heat and mechanical action would damage the wool and the cover.

• Can wool smell?
A slight natural odor may appear after ventilation or depending on the humidity of the room.
It disappears within a few hours in the open air.

• Does wool attract dust mites?
No.
Wool is antistatic and does not retain dust, making the environment unfavorable to dust mites. This is a major advantage compared to synthetic fibers.

• Can the mattress topper become deformed?
It may move slightly with use and flatten, like any natural filling.
Simply put it back in place during ventilation or, in the case of exceptional washing, distribute the wool evenly during drying.

• How often should it be aired?
Ideally:
once a week after a very hot or restless night, after an episode of humidity in the room.

• Is it suitable for people with sensitivities or allergies?
Yes.
Wool is naturally antibacterial and breathable.
The organic cotton of the cover is soft and non-irritating.

• Can I use it with a sheet?
It's possible, but it limits the effectiveness of the wool.
To benefit from its thermoregulatory properties, the wool side should remain exposed to the air. As an alternative, you can use a linen sheet, which also has thermoregulatory properties.

Yuliya's Tips

We absolutely love this product and it's incredibly useful in our home. I've been using this mattress topper on my children's beds since 2016. It replaced their large Kaiser sheepskin rugs, while maintaining the same level of thermal comfort.
They sleep on the wool side all year round, even in summer (for me, that's when wool reveals its full interest).

Washed once each since: otherwise - simply aired once a week or after a restless night.

Saling

At Saling, everything starts with a simple idea: a textile product should be able to last for years, not just a few seasons. This German family business has built its reputation on natural materials, with wool as its core material, chosen not for its image but for what it truly offers when left unaltered.

The wool comes from local farms guaranteed mulesing-free and is monitored at every stage. Nothing is unnecessarily rushed: the fiber is washed and prepared using gentle processes to preserve its original structure. The aim is not to alter the material but to work with it. Breathability, temperature regulation, and durability are not added—they are simply preserved.

The manufacturing process also remains consistent with this approach. Producing in Germany allows for control over each stage, minimizes transportation, and leverages established expertise. The pieces are designed to last: strong seams, a structure that won't deform, and materials that retain their shape over time. No unnecessary embellishments, no superfluous plastic, only renewable and biodegradable materials chosen for their actual lifespan.

Each Saling product reflects this approach: respecting the fiber so that it can fulfill its role naturally, offering healthy comfort over time and producing responsibly - not as an argument, but as a logical continuity between the material, the use and the environment.
