Are you layering your child with clothes because you're worried they're not warm enough, but you see that they're restricted in their movements?

Does your child sweat profusely at the overheated school, then catch a cold at recess because their back is damp?

Do you want to reduce the frequency of washing thanks to a naturally breathable and odor-resistant fiber?

Are you looking for clothing made from natural, healthy and comfortable materials for your child's sensitive skin?

    Description

The Disana Aran children's sweater is inspired by the famous zigzag pattern originating from the Aran Islands in Ireland, traditionally knitted by fishermen's wives to protect against the cold.

This sweater is knitted with a generous amount of fine merino wool in a voluminous knit that traps tiny air pockets. These air cushions act as extra thermal insulation, making this sweater a true all-season garment for cooler days.

    Design and functional details

    • Traditional Aran pattern with textured knit
    • Comfortable, slightly longer cut to accommodate growth
    • Ribbed cuffs and hem for a good fit
    • Classic crew neck, easy to slip on
    • Unisex model, suitable for girls and boys

    Material and thermal performance

Made from pure merino wool, this sweater offers:

    • excellent thermoregulation (neither too hot nor too cold)
    • natural breathability that wicks away moisture
    • thermal insulation thanks to the air pockets in the bulky mesh
    • a natural resistance to odors, reducing the frequency of washing

Merino knit is soft, supple and comfortable, suitable for wearing directly on the skin or over a wool/silk base layer.

    Versatility and use

    This sweater is ideal:

    • in winter as a mid-layer under a coat
    • in mid-season or cool weather as a main layer
    • at school, at home and outdoors

It allows the child to stay dry and at a stable temperature despite variations between heated indoors and cold outdoors.

    Comfort and freedom of movement

Thanks to its stretch knit and flexible cut, this sweater is not tight and follows the child's movements.
It provides a natural alternative to synthetic sweaters that promote perspiration and moisture.

    Sizes:

    Sizing advice

Note: Every baby and child grows at their own pace. Maison de MaMoulia recommends choosing the size based on height in centimeters rather than an approximate age.

    Understanding Disana sizes

At Disana, each size is designed to last until the next size up.

Example: a size 86/92 is designed to cover the entire growth period up to the next size , i.e. approximately from 86 to 98 cm (and often beyond depending on the child's morphology).

Therefore, this is not a garment strictly limited to 86-92 cm, but an evolving size designed to accompany growth over an extended period.

Carefully compare the garment measurements with your own measurements.

    Composition

    • Pure organic merino wool, sourced from a production guaranteed to be mulesing-free and respectful of animal welfare. The wool comes from Patagonia, where the climate makes this practice unnecessary.

    • The fibers are of very high quality, free of harmful substances at any stage of the manufacturing process, and free of microplastics. The dyes used are certified for natural fibers, and are kind to both skin and the environment.

    • Production is GOTS and IVN BEST certified by Ecocert Greenlife (license no. 151699), with short production circuits guaranteeing traceability, quality and environmental responsibility.

    Maintenance tips

Natural wool does not need frequent washing. Regular airing is often sufficient.

Local cleaning of stains under ambient water with Ulrich gall or genuine Marseille stain-removing soap.

    ○ Complete wash (rare, when really necessary):

    • Hand wash only. No machine washing, even on a "wool" or "delicate" program.
    • Cold or room temperature water
    • Essential rule: the same temperature for washing and rinsing
    • Eco-friendly liquid laundry detergent specially formulated for wool or enriched with lanolin

    ○ Drying
    • No tumble dryer
    • No radiators, electric heating, or direct sunlight
    • Drying flat
    • Reshape while drying - and return from time to time to reshape further while the garment is still wet

    ○ Lanolin Maintenance
    • For this wool, it is best to use Ulrich laundry detergent, which is already enriched with lanolin.
    • Do not take a Cure bath for more than 1 hour.

    Manufacturing & Ecology

Since 1982, Disana has manufactured its products in Germany, maintaining a largely integrated production chain: knitting, garment making, and quality control are all carried out in its own workshops, ensuring complete traceability and minimizing transportation. This local production allows the company to preserve traditional textile expertise while ensuring consistent quality.

Merino wool comes from farms that prioritize animal welfare and are guaranteed mulesing-free. The fibers are selected for their natural properties—breathability, thermoregulation, and strength—and then processed using methods compatible with their structure to avoid unnecessary alterations. Dyes are chosen for their low environmental impact and compatibility with the fiber.

The textiles are GOTS and IVN BEST certified, two demanding standards that govern the organic origin of the materials, the absence of harmful substances, fair working conditions, and strict environmental criteria. The approach also includes waste reduction, the reuse of production scraps, product repairability, and the transmission of know-how.

The whole aims for the same objective: to create functional, durable and transmissible clothing, designed to accompany daily use for a long time rather than a short consumption cycle.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    • Can it be worn directly on the skin?
    Yes.
The fine merino wool used by Disana is soft and comfortable.
This sweater can be worn as a first layer directly on the skin, or over a wool/silk undergarment depending on the child's sensitivity.

    • Is this sweater warm enough for winter?
    Yes.
The voluminous Aran knit traps air, creating natural thermal insulation. Knitted with a high proportion of fine merino wool, this sweater is very warm yet breathable. Add a wool-silk layer underneath in very cold weather.

    • Does this sweater itch?

Fine merino wool is soft and supple. For very sensitive skin, it's possible to wear a thin wool/silk layer underneath, but many children wear it directly against their skin without any problems.

    Yuliya's Tips

    • Layering system:

Disana merino wool clothing is a logical continuation for parents who already dress their children in ManyMonths merino wool adjustable garments. But it's also suitable for any family looking for simple, effective, and natural thermal protection.

    ○ Outer layer - Disana boiled wool (jackets, jumpsuits, coats), boiled wool skirt or trousers, boiled wool or knitted wool hat and mittens (Disana, ManyMonths)

    ○ Mid-layer - ManyMonths or Disana merino wool knit: T-shirt, sweater or cardigan, leggings

    ○ Base layer - Cosilana natural "second skin" underwear: Wool/silk or wool/silk/cotton T-shirts and leggings

    ○ Accessories - Hirsch Natur wool socks to complete the thermal insulation of the extremities

    • I discovered this brand in 2012, when I bought a small blanket (Original model in ecru, the brand's first product) for my baby, then a boiled wool jumpsuit.
Discoveries of this quality and perfect thermoregulation were a real game-changer: faced with the lack of these products in France, I started offering them in stores in 2013, actively contributing to the development and visibility of Disana on the French market ever since.

I also had the pleasure of visiting the brand's factory in Germany and meeting their teams on several occasions. Disana now holds no secrets for me, and I wholeheartedly recommend it for both children and adults.

    • I insist that these beauties should only be washed by hand (if necessary!) if you want them to last for many years while taking care of you.

    Disana

Disana was founded in 1982 in Germany, at a time when natural textiles were still a niche market. From the outset, the family business followed a simple conviction: healthy clothing begins with an undamaged fiber. Rather than following the trend of industrial textile production, the brand chose to preserve local expertise and produce garments designed to last.

Over the years, Disana has been one of the few European manufacturers to maintain a largely integrated production chain in Germany. Knitting, garment making, and quality control are all carried out in their own workshops. This choice allows them to control quality, minimize transportation, and preserve a true textile craft. Each piece is designed as a functional and timeless textile, intended to be a part of everyday life for years to come.

Merino wool comes from farms that prioritize animal welfare and are guaranteed mulesing-free. The fibers are selected for their natural properties—breathability, temperature regulation, and durability—and processed using methods compatible with the material to protect both skin and the environment. GOTS and IVN BEST certifications cover the entire supply chain: complete traceability, absence of harmful substances, and fair working conditions.

At Disana, sustainability goes beyond the product itself. Reusing textile scraps, repairing garments, and passing on know-how are integral to their approach. The pieces are designed to be worn for a long time, often passed down from child to child, based on the idea that a well-made garment can last for several lifetimes rather than just one season.
