Manufacturing & Ecology

ManyMonths / MaM / MaD clothing is manufactured for the Finnish brand Babyidea by EcoTextile / HempValley (Denmark/China), a workshop specializing in natural fibers and GOTS certified since 2008 – still a rarity in China and elsewhere. Production adheres to ILO social standards (voluntary work, prohibition of child labor, fair wages, safety, and regulated working hours), and each component is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class I certified, making it suitable for contact with babies' skin.

The dyes are produced by certified workshops and tested by independent laboratories. This partner was chosen based on verifiable criteria: technical expertise, traceability, and social guarantees. The goal is transparent and sustainable manufacturing, prioritizing responsible production practices over mere geographical proximity.

Frequently Asked Questions

• From what age can it be worn?
From around 8-10 years old

• Can it be worn directly on the skin?
Yes.
Merino wool is naturally fine and soft.
Most people can wear it directly on the skin, without an intermediate layer.

• Does wool make you itch?
No.
The fine knit is soft, often compared to cotton in feel.

• Can it be machine washed?
You can, if you wish, machine wash this wool at less than 30°C, on a short cycle, with a maximum spin speed of 400 rpm or no spin if possible, using a special wool detergent and no fabric softener. However, machine washing is always at your own risk. Hand washing is strongly recommended to preserve the untreated fibers.

• How long can it be worn without washing?
Dozens of times depending on usage, with simple ventilation.

• Is it hot?
Wool is thermoregulating: warm when it's cold, breathable when it's warm. Adding a base layer of wool or a wool-silk blend is possible in sub-zero temperatures.

• Does wool stretch?
Yes, slightly so with use, but it regains its shape after resting.

• Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes, merino wool is finer than a human hair. By maintaining its lanolin, which moisturizes it, you'll have a very comfortable garment to wear.

• Is this an environmentally friendly product?
Yes. Natural fiber, truly biodegradable, durable, certified and ethically produced.

Yuliya's Tips

• Very practical for replacing scarves, which are not recommended at school.

• With a MaM or MaD t-shirt or with dresses, it creates a very practical roll-neck garment!

• Hand wash, please!

This simple (and rarely necessary) gesture helps preserve the garment's good shape and size over time.
Gentle care also helps maintain the product's excellent quality, which can be a real advantage if you ever wish to resell it.

ManyMonths garments are easily passed down from family to family, and their second-hand value often remains very appealing.
Well-maintained, used for a long time—then resold—this garment can thus become one of the most economical pieces in your child's wardrobe.

Babyidea / ManyMonths / MaM

The Babyidea story begins in Finland, in the Helsinki region, as a Scandinavian family business guided by a simple idea: to design products that are truly useful in everyday life and consistent with natural parenting.

MaM® Design's beginnings date back to 2001, during Bettina's maternity leave; she was then a university lecturer. At that time, physiological babywearing was virtually unknown in Europe, and suitable clothing was practically nonexistent. The first creations were therefore born from a concrete need: to make life with a baby easier, without compromising on comfort or materials.
ManyMonths clothes that grow with the child - are born.

The brand has grown alongside its children: from a few boxes stacked in a bedroom serving as a makeshift workshop to a 500 m² logistics space near Helsinki, and then to a network of distributors and boutiques across Europe. Despite this evolution, the objective remains unchanged: to develop sustainable, practical, and respectful solutions in partnership with companies that share the same values.

Following this principle, the manufacturing of ManyMonths, MaM, and MaD clothing was not based on geographical criteria but on technical and human factors. The choice fell on EcoTextile / HempValley (Denmark/China), a workshop specializing in natural fibers that has been operating for nearly twenty years with high standards of traceability and social responsibility. GOTS certified since 2008—a still rare certification—the manufacturer also adheres to the ILO's international labor standards. Each component is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class I certified, and the dyes are tested by independent laboratories.

This partnership reflects the brand's philosophy: prioritizing expertise, transparency, and verifiable guarantees over superficial proximity. The objective remains the same as from the outset: to create clothing designed to last, safe for children, and consistent with a more responsible lifestyle, from design in Finland to manufacturing.

The MaM / MaD collection for adults was born in 2017 to meet the growing demand from parents to finally be able to wear the same wool as their children in ManyMonths.

*******

My business began with the purchase of a simple ManyMonths pure wool bodysuit in 2012. That's when I truly discovered what wool could be like in everyday life. Then, as I outfitted my children with the entire collection, another realization dawned: I wanted to talk about it, explain it, and share it with the world!

That's how my shop was born. This brand was the direct origin of my business, and over the years I have also been very actively involved in its development in France, while influencing certain product developments thanks to feedback from the field.

It all started thanks to Bettina. I will always be grateful to her for these clothes that have accompanied my children - and me - throughout all these years.
